Deployment strategies for adjusters

want to lower your stress while being deployed and help ensure you have a smooth experience? All adjusters go through this, and it is not as difficult as it may seem. It’s all about the level of preparation you have before your trip. June 1st kicks off hurricane season which means a busy season for claims. Each hurricane brings in different expectations and experiences, but preparation is the key to a less stressful experience. Here are some tips on how you can stay prepared and ahead of the game during a catastrophic event as an insurance adjuster.

1) Prepare your Car
A car is one of the major tools you need for deployment. The level of readiness your car can take form being one of your strongest tools to your weakest link.  When prepping your car, especially when going long distances across the country it’s important to take it to get a service check before leaving. Sometimes adjusters overlook checking their vehicles because they may not be experiencing any problems or warning lights in their current time but there are always unfortunate events that can happen that your car can simply not detect.  For example, never will you know when you’ll get a flat tire that will push back your entire schedule. It’s important to be prepared by having a spare tire, tire patching tools, a car jack, or making sure you have roadside assistance through your auto insurance or third party. In addition, in a catastrophic event, there are areas with a low number of resources.

2)  Make sure Tools are Working Properly
Not only do you need to make sure that your car is well prepared, but you also need to make sure your tools are ready too. This could include making sure you have all your ladders, gauges, suitable clothing for the weather, cougar paws, measuring tapes, and anything else you could need packed and in good condition. Ensuring you’ll be able to handle all types of claims with the tools you have can save you stress and prepare you for anything the storm might bring.

3) Keep Electronics Prepared
Furthermore, remember to check laptops, phones, and the applications are logged in and in good condition. Once again remember these are some of the key tools you’ll need during your deployment. If you don’t use your laptop, often make sure to check by turning it on before leaving, if your phone doesn’t have enough storage make sure you clear out enough or purchase additional storage for all the pictures and files you’ll be holding while you’re deployed. You’ll also want to make sure you have the proper cords you will likely need such as, backup chargers, headphones, power cords, and any other accessory your technology might need. Lastly, make sure you’ve logged into programming and have set shortcuts to your commonly used programs, such as, Xactimate or Symbility and have important contacts like managers and other coworkers saved on your phone.

Nothing can prepare you for what the storm might bring but you can be prepared by preparing your car, tools, and electronics. Doing this can help you save time, money, and stress while being deployed in areas far from home.
